Monaco GP, May 23, 1971

Qualifying was extremely wet and so it was Friday morning times that really counted for the grid; for Mario Andretti this was particularly unfortunate, as his Ferrari 312B2 was stranded out on the track at this time so he was unable to qualify despite lying second in the World Championship. Jackie Stewart claimed a stunning pole position over a second ahead of his front row companion Jacky Ickx and in the race shot into an immediate lead from the fast-starting Jo Siffert, Ickx, Pedro Rodríguez, Ronnie Peterson and Denny Hulme. Chris Amon stalled on the grid and Graham Hill - seeking a 6th Monaco win - made a rare mistake, hitting the wall at Tabac on lap 2.
Stewart extended his lead from Siffert and Ickx, despite being painfully ill from fumes leaking into the cockpit. Peterson was astonishing the crowd with his valiant attempts to take 4th place from Rodríguez, who was baulking him as much as was legally possible. Hulme managed to join the battle and pass Peterson on one lap. Eventually the Mexican slipped up under pressure and locked up a wheel to let both Peterson and Hulme through. Stewart went on to win the race.

British Grand Prix, 16 July 1960

Dedicated to Sir Jack Brabham.

The Cooper-Climax T53 F1 driven by Jack Brabham. Qualifying resulted in pole position for Brabham, a second faster than Graham Hill's BRM P48 with Bruce McLaren's Cooper T53 and Jo Bonnier's BRM P48 making it a balanced front row.
The start saw three cars stall; Hill for the second race running) and the two BRP Cooper T51s of Brooks and Henry Taylor.
McLaren was second on the first lap, but soon dropped behind Bonnier and the factory Lotus 18 of Innes Ireland; he then passed Bonnier to take second place. Hill drove a storming race from the back of the field and worked his way back, passing Ireland for second after 37 laps and setting off after Brabham. To the delight of the crowd, he caught him and on lap 55 took the lead. Further back, the Lotus 18 of John Surtees displaced Ireland for third place.
Hill had been suffering brake problems for some time and on lap 72 he spun at Copse Corner and retired from the race. Brabham took the lead and five laps later took the chequered flag, with Surtees and Ireland second and third for Team Lotus.

Monaco Grand Prix, May 26, 1963

Willy Mairesse, driving the Ferrari 156. he would retire on lap 27 with gearbox failure, but would be classified 10th ; Graham Hill in the previous season's BRM P57 won the race. In typical BRM fashion, a new model was not prepared in time for the 1963 season, so to keep the P57 competitive, a new 6 speed gearbox was mounted to the engine, which also featured a new fuel injection system.

As an aside, John Mecom Jr.backed Danica Patrick in her transition from a 15-year old kart racer to be a professional racing car driver in 1998, by providing full financial support and securing drives for her to race in England with help of long-time family friend and Mecom team driver Jackie Stewart. This led to her subsequent involvement with Ford and then Rahal Letterman Racing.
