1962 Lincoln Continental Convertible - El Presidente

When a car looks this good from the factory, it needs little extra adornment, if any, to make it stand out. The car in question is a 1962 Lincoln Continental Convertible, which has style on tap straight out of the door at the Wixom factory where it was made.
All that had been added to this black beauty is a full compliment of airbags and a four-linked rear end to get this Conti 'laying frame'. Even the 430ci MEL (Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln) V8 is left standard, not that its an engine lacking in power, with 315bhp as standard. Even the interior is standard, save for a retrim in leather and suede and the exterior having a mile-deep coat of PPG black.
Oh, and thats Ivette Flores adorning the car. We'll tolerate her presence...

1962 AMC Rambler American - Scrambler

Ever seen a Rambler American before? You have now. The second generation (1961-1963) Rambler American was effectively a heavy restyle of the previous year's model, in itself a re-use of the Nash (later AMC) Rambler of 1950-1955. Talk about how to wring the most out of a product. Cash-strapped AMC were still using the flathead straight-six that could trace it's roots back to 1941 in the base versions of the Rambler American, but this lil' wanderer has a small-block Chevy under the bonnet. The car was a 58,000 mile, barn-find refugee and yes patina junkies, the paint and body are virtually unmolested. That interior has been given a light dusting of steampunk powder, but gosh darned if it works wonders for it.
Three January's in a row and I've managed to post an Nash/AMC feature without even realising it until now. Weird.

14th Annual Bonneville National Speed Trials, 1962

Jack Lufkin and Denny Jones showed up at Speedweek in '62 with this clean looking Class B Grand Touring Corvette powered by a 300ci straight six Chevy engine.
They had set their sights on the 1960 record set by the Harry Mann 'Vette at 156.954 mph. They went home disappointed, because Bill Scace pipped them for the record at 160.469mph. They would be back and become a force to be reckoned with.

Bonneville Speed Week, Bonneville Salt Flats, 1962

Mexican Road Race hot shoe and Bill Stroppe employee Verne Houle did a little moonlighting at Bonneville in 1962 when he accepted the driving chores for Brian Chuchua's Class A GT Corvette powered by a 316ci Chevy V8. Try as he might, Verne couldn't touch the car's own 171.746 mph record set back in 1960. Note the bonnet is slightly raised in the rear to let trapped air out and dig individual stacks that made plenty of noise.
