There's a 1939 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Berlinetta with Coachwork by Touring on eBay for under a £1000.

Whoa whoa whoa, calm down, this isn't the actual car, but now that you've pulled yourself down off the chandelier and taken a valium, let me finish.
There's a 1939 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Berlinetta with Coachwork by Touring on eBay for under a grand - but it's only the bodyshell. And the reserve hasn't been met yet. And there's also the small point that the shell's been modified, but we'll get to that in just a sec.

BUT, how often does one of these come up? Exactly. Every car has potential, but it's fair to say some cars have more than others, and boy, this honey have potential in spades. Think of all the things us automotive perverts would love to do to this gorgeous creature; blown V8 and fat slicks, or a pan-dragging lowrider, or-or a fantastic street rod. Yeah, even I'm getting a warm tingly feeling just thinking about it.

The other question that's no doubt on your lips is also how come one of these grand cars came to this particular juncture? Well, it seems that the Alfa has quite a bit of history, history that I'm busy researching for a proper feature, but here's the info from the ad itself:

'This is a BODY SHELL only taken from a pre war Alfa Romeo 6C2500 designed by TOURING. This Body shell was seriously modified in the late 70's when car was raced in Argentina. However, many of the beautiful Touring elements still exist. Side windows complete with alloy frame and lock are still there (see period photo of identical features), inner bonnet locks, etc. The main modifications were the complete front wings and grill, the rear pointed tail was copped and raised to form kind of a rear spoiler. The rear windscreen was widened and a modern curved screen fitted. Modern Front windscreen was also fitted, on top of the original flat split V shaped original screen contour. Wheel base is 300 cm, Track 145 cm'

Finding out this car's history, or even just unearthing some info about it's racing life in Argentina and how it got to the UK would be fascinating; no doubt there's a rich story to tell.

Now the only question that remains is: who's going to do the decent thing and buy it? And do I have the space to put it? And will I be fighting you all off with an oily camshaft to get it?
